Stewardship Well Done Journey: Owner vs. Steward

Updated: Jun 26, 2023

The Stewardship Well Done Journey begins with the idea that we are stewards of the resources entrusted to us, not owners. As Psalm 24:1 says, “The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it, the world and all who live in it”.

So how does a steward differ from an owner? As an owner, you are ultimately responsible only to yourself for how resources are used. As a steward, you must manage resources on behalf of someone else, and give an account to that person. The resources are not yours to use as you please.

This may seem like a small issue to some … but it ultimately makes a HUGE difference in how you manage your money. If it really belongs to God, and is simply on loan to you, are you managing it according to His standards? Are you taking care of your family and His Kingdom in ways that would please Him? Are you asking Him to approve your agenda for your finances, or truly aligning with His agenda?

As you work with your budget and pay bills this month, ask yourself, “Am I acting like an owner or a steward? What would need to change if I truly believe I am a steward?” The answers to these questions are the first steps on the Stewardship Well Done Journey.
